The Eagle Ford Shale play is one of the hottest oil plays in South Texas and the Nation. The Eagle Ford Shale is a deep formation running across South Texas counties and as far as the Mexico border. It is almost 50 miles wide and 400 miles long. The new advances in drilling process gives drillers better access reaching the oil and gas reserves. Hydraulic fracturing is a method pumping a mixture of sand, water and chemicals deep underground to release trapped oil and natural gas. When the well is fractured a certain time frame passes before natural production begins. It has also been reported the Eagle Ford Shale could contain billion of barrels of oil. Some of the largest oil companies are involved with the Eagle Ford Shale. Some of the notable companies are Schlumberger, Weatherford, Marathon Oil, Halliburton, and Baker Hughes Inc. There are many smaller oil companies involved as well. The economic boom to the region and Texas will be significant for many years to come. One example is railroad activity and the rig count which has increased dramatically this year. Oil production is expected to reach 1 million barrels a day by 2016. The economics of the Eagle Ford Shale play will be in the billion of dollars in the 20 county region located in South Texas. The Eagle Ford Shale will create in excess of over 100,000 jobs in coming years. The Eagle Ford Shale will also bring many high paying jobs. Some of the jobs include truck drivers, administration positions, managers, technicians, engineers, chemists and geologists to name a few.
